Occupational licensing has become a bottleneck in the U.S., with more than a quarter of workers requiring a license to perform their jobs. In fact, due to modern regulatory requirements, the number of licensed workers at the state level has increased fivefold since the 1950s. While it is crucial to prioritize public health and safety, the stringent requirements for licensed professions can sometimes limit job opportunities and result in higher prices (up to 16%) for goods and services. In New Mexico, manual processes and an inadequate IT infrastructure have created license intake, renewal, and operational efficiency challenges. Our latest case study thoughtfully examines these issues and explores the enterprise solution that has transformed the Department. We are enthusiastic about the positive impact this solution will have on the licensing process and the economy as a whole.
